Type Locality and Naming

Along the Akkum River, South Kazakhstan. A.A. Abdusamatov, 1988, 1995. Stratotype in the basin of the Akkum River (near the village of Turbat). Identified by A.A. Abdusamatov in 1988 from the composition of the Surenatin Fm. Since 1988, it has been used in the compilation of reference legends, in geological survey and thematic works of the Chatkal-Kuramin ore region.

Synonym: Akkum Suite, Аккумская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Sands, sandstones, yellow, yellowish-gray, quartz-mica with interlayers and lenses of gravelites containing ornamental stones. Thickness up to 60m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies with erosion on rocks of the Upper Cretaceous, Jurassic.

Upper contact

It is overlain conformably by the Alay Fm

Regional extent

Prishachent District. Along the strike, there is a facies substitution of the lower part of the suite by clays of the Kaplanbek Fm and Kaynarbulak Fm, and the upper part by conglomerates of the Syurenbatin Fm. It is correlated with the Sulyuk Fm of the Fergana Depression.

Contains foraminifera - *Anomalina ammophila* (Gümb.), *Rotalia alaica* N. Byk., *R. heckeri* N. Byk., *R. iljini* N. Byk.; marine bivalve mollusks - *Ostrea turkestanensis* Rom., *O. pseudobellovaeina* Kachan., *Lucina consobrina* Desh., *L. menardi* (Desh.), *Pitar akssuensis* Kachan.
